Huntington's Disease

Hey all, Zach just invited me to join, so this is my first post, so howdy.

I saw a really interesting article in NY Times today about Huntington's Disease, and an at risk woman our age who decided to be tested and found that she in fact was positive and probably will start to show symptoms in about ten years. Its pretty interesting and I wonder if I were in a similar position if I would want the test. Here it is.

Huntington's is the disease that killed Woody Guthrie (famous singer who wrote "This Land is Your Land"). Due to the symptoms, he was unable to sing, record or play guitar after a certain point. However, he continued to write songs until right before his death, and in the mid 90s Billy Bragg and Wilco joined forces with his daughter to record some of the songs. The two albums (Mermaid Avenue, Vols I and II) have some really great tunes on them, and are definitely worth checking out. One of my favorites is one that Wilco still plays in concert called "California Stars"

There was a documentary made about the recording process called "Man In The Sand" that is also excellent. Notice that Woody's guitar says "This machine kills fascists", which is awesome.
